American business executive, Seth Godin, said “The secret of leadership is simple: Do what you believe in. Paint a picture of the future. Go there. People will follow.” This week’s Hugh Chatham Way Highlight nominee works hard in our practices to both lead and serve her fellow team members and ensure the highest quality of patient care. Join me in celebrating Practice Support Manager, Palmer Duncan.

Leann Hooker, Director of Practice Operations, said “Palmer joined our practice leadership team as a Practice Support Manager as she was completing her MBA through Johnson & Wales University. Born and raised in Elkin, Palmer exemplifies the Hugh Chatham vision of becoming the best community hospital in the nation. Servant-leadership is all about making the goals clear, and then rolling your sleeves up and doing whatever it takes to help your people succeed. Palmer has a natural ability to connect with her team, often working alongside her direct reports to implement best practice and invaluable patient experience.”

Laura Oakes, Director of Market Development, Integration, and Recruitment, continues by saying “Palmer has been a great addition to the Hugh Chatham Medical Group. She brings a unique perspective to practice operations that has helped optimize best practices within the practices she works with. Her positive attitude and passion for patient care are a true asset to Hugh Chatham!”

Palmer, thank you for your willingness to support and guide those around you. Your expertise and commitment to our core values does not go unnoticed. We are blessed to have you as a part of our Hugh Chatham family!

Q & A with Palmer

How did you come to Hugh Chatham?
Hugh Chatham has always felt like home. Many family members have worked for Hugh Chatham including my grandfather as a Physician and mother as an OR Nurse. I did my internship in high school with Laura Oakes and knew I wanted to eventually come back and work for Hugh Chatham. Hugh Chatham is an amazing community hospital full of great people with a passion for serving. I feel lucky and blessed to be a part of this great organization.

What are your clinical interests?
Healthcare has always been something I am extremely passionate about and have been readily exposed to. With many family members in healthcare it has always been an interest of mine, I was just never sure if I wanted to do clinical work or be in healthcare administration. I have a passion for helping others and working as a Practice Support Manager has given me continuous opportunities to help others, both patients and practice employees.

How do you and your team exhibit STARS?
In Physician Services, STARS is exhibited every single day. Since the first day that I began this job, teamwork, accountability and respect have been shown throughout every part of my day. No matter where I am or what I need the team is always willing to help me out and answer any and all questions that I have. I have also been treated with the utmost respect and care throughout my time here and could not be more grateful.

What do you like to do for fun?
In my spare time I love to read, shop, and spend time by the pool.
