Q & A with Jordan

What brought you to Hugh Chatham?
“I have always lived in the area. I completed my undergraduate at Appalachian State University and they required an internship. I knew I eventually wanted to work here at some point so I reached out to one of my professors. They knew someone in Human Resources at the time so I began my internship of 300 hours in the HR department. I stayed the rest of the summer as a volunteer, which ultimately led to a PRN job. I was eventually hired at Home Health as an Admin Specialist until a role in HR opened up.”

Why do you love HR?
“I love the people aspect, especially in the role that I am in now. I get to meet all of the new team members and interact with employees on a daily basis. Whether they are new to Hugh Chatham or managers, they all make this a wonderful place to work.”

“I like that you never know what you are going to get into. Each day is different; I might be at the computer all day, helping with a skills fair, or decorating for an awards banquet. You never know!”

What is your favorite thing to do in your role?
“Oh man, that is a tough question. I think my favorite thing to do is meet new hires. You get to build a personal connection with them. I am their first stop, beginning with their application, and if they have any questions or concerns, I am able to walk them through it. I love seeing the whole process work.”

What do you like to do for fun?
“I have a golden retriever and I love being with my dog. Her name is Chloe and she is my fur-baby. I also enjoy camping, hiking, and kayaking. I will be taking my kayaks out of storage soon and will be able to kayak next weekend. Typically, you can find me on the river or on a campground. My favorite place to “glamp” (camping with comfort) is in a camper at a place in Tennessee called Anchor Down. It is beside a lake with a stone-built fireplace right outside of Pigeon Forge. It is absolutely gorgeous.”
