ED, SECOND FLOOR, & ICU TEAMS

HUGH CHATHAM MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Author and philosopher, Rabindranath Tagore, said “I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.” This week’s Hugh Chatham Way Highlight is unique because it focuses on a group of team members from several departments within the hospital. The spouse of a recent patient sent a letter of gratitude for the excellent, compassionate care her husband received during his stay. Join me in celebrating the Emergency Department, Second Floor, and ICU teams at Hugh Chatham for the exceptional care they provided while treating a recent patient, whose care experience is outlined in a letter from his wife, excerpted below.

“While my husband was being evaluated upon moving from your Emergency Room to the hospital, I read through your brochures. Your reputation for clinical excellence and dedicated staff spoken of in the brochure, came to life for us as the team tested to determine a diagnosis. They quickly ruled out Covid, flu, tick bite and meningitis. They were then left with a clearly fit patient who had a low white cell count and A-fib. Methodically, they tested his blood a number of times daily to search for a specific issue while pumping him full of fluids and antibiotics. The final diagnosis was overexertion and dehydration, causing Rhabdo. The deteriorating muscle tissue was affecting the kidneys, heart rate and lung pleurisy. The treatments were successful and he is now home resting.

A special thank you to nurse Rogina, who felt he was a stroke risk and needed ICU care. Also, to the excellent care Sierra provided in ICU. Dr. Patel and Dr. Garba provided all the diagnostic and treatment protocols needed.

Thank you to Scotty and Nicole in Emergency, Carey and all the other nurses on the hospital floor who cared for my husband.

Your staff lined up to all the credentials cited in your brochure. We have great comfort knowing you’re there if we need you each summer we spend at our home in Roaring Gap.

Sincerely,
“Mr. and Mrs. H”

I could not be more proud of our team here at Hugh Chatham. Each day you show up and you step up, caring for our community with unrivaled expertise and compassion. I thank each of you for your strong commitment to our patients and their families!
