Beverly Sills, an accomplished American soprano, said “There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.” This week’s Hugh Chatham Way Highlight focuses on a team member who repeatedly shows her dedication to both patients and team members. She understands the important role her department plays in high quality patient care and is willing to go the extra mile to make sure everyone has what they need. Join me in celebrating Lori Beck, Lead Pharmacy Tech for Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.

Gregg Holcomb, Pharmacy Directory, said “Lori is the consummate team player. She always does what she needs to do to help out the other team members, even if it means staying late and giving up personal time with her family. She does a great job of working to ensure that our patients have the medications that they need, even during times of severe medication shortages.”

Genia Gambill, Pharmacist, continues by saying, “Lori is a dynamic go-getter, with an admirable dedication to a team who focuses on results.” Kayla Westra, Pharmacist, also added, “Lori is a great team player and goes above and beyond when we are short-staffed.”

Lori, you are a wonderful example of a compassionate, caring team member. Thank you for being so committed to the Hugh Chatham values. We are blessed to have you here!

Q & A with Lori

How did you come to Hugh Chatham?
I came to Hugh Chatham in February 1997 while I was in college. At that time I was unsure of what I wanted to do when I “grew up” but I knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field. I started as a part time pharmacy technician and very quickly realized that I was right where I should be. The rest is history.

What led you to a career in healthcare?
I grew up watching my mother work here as a CNA, later becoming an LPN, and finally, the greatest RN that I know. It was evident at an early age that the work my mom was doing was making a difference in the lives of others. I wanted to have a rewarding career, while also earning a living doing what I loved, just like her. I found that healthcare was a great fit for me too.

How do you and your team exhibit STARS?
I must say that the Hugh Chatham pharmacy has the most amazing group of individuals caring for our patients. We hold ourselves accountable each day which helps our organization provide high quality care. We are an exceptional team working together to meet the needs of not only our patients, but the needs of our hospital family. I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work with day in and day out.

What do you like to do for fun?
When I’m not working, I enjoy time with my family and friends. I love swimming, reading, playing Bingo and watching Christmas movies all year long!
