Elkin, NC, September 22, 2025 – In an achievement that underscores a deep commitment to excellence in safety and patient care, the Environmental Services team at Hugh Chatham Health has received a prestigious 5-star rating for cleanliness from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), placing them in the top 5% of hospitals nationally.
The 5-star cleanliness rating from CMS is derived from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, a national, standardized survey that collects information about patient experience of care supported by three goals. First, the survey is standardized and implemented to allow objective comparisons of hospitals on topics that are important to consumers. Second, the results encourage hospitals to improve quality of care. Third, the results are publicly reported, enhancing accountability by the healthcare facility.
Warren Bates, Safety Officer and Director of Environmental and Food and Nutrition Services, stated “We believe that a safe and clean environment is crucial for the health and well-being of our patients, visitors, and teammates. Our Environmental Services Team works tirelessly to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and safety in every facility within our organization. Their hard work and meticulous attention to detail ensure that everyone who walks through our doors can feel secure and cared for. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of the team here at Hugh Chatham Health.”
