Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital sponsored a free OTC Medicine Giveaway recently by partnering with NC MedAssist. On Friday, October 14th at their newest urgent care on CC Camp Rd, the mobile free pharmacy event allowed citizens the opportunity to pick up over the counter (OTC) medications, free of charge.
“We could not have asked for a better location” says Mobile Free Pharmacy Event Planner Anita Russell. “There was more than enough room inside for online orders and for volunteers to take a break. The flow of traffic was steady, and the parking lot set-up was ideal.”
The event served 755 residents in our area and was coordinated by Danielle Marion; Director of Marketing and Mary Blackburn; Chief Clinical Officer and VP of Care Innovation at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. “We understand there is a pressing need, especially with cold and flu season on the horizon” says Marion. “Our goal with this partnership is to provide dependable resources and improve the overall health of our community members. We look forward to holding another OTC Medicine Giveaway in the coming year.”
NC MedAssist collaborates with community partners to organize these free events throughout the state. Individuals receive items that include, but are not limited to, first aid supplies, pain relief, cold and cough, allergy & digestive medicines as well as eyeglasses, vitamins, and children’s medication.
While participants must be at least 18 years old to receive medicines, no formal identification is required and there are no income limitations for this program.
NC MedAssist is a statewide non-profit pharmacy founded in 1997 that provides free prescription medication to all low-income and/or uninsured North Carolinians who qualify for their Free Prescription Pharmacy Program. NC MedAssist offers three programs that address the needs of children and adults:
- Free Pharmacy Program (for prescription medication).
- Over-the-Counter Program (which includes the Free OTC Store in Charlotte, as well as the Mobile Free Pharmacy Program which distributes over-the-counter medicine in communities across the state).
- The Transitional Jobs Program (for individuals with barriers to employment).
The NC MedAssit slogan is Dispensing Hope for the Uninsured, and their mission is to dispense opportunities through improved health.
