Elkin, NC, October 28, 2025 – The Hugh Chatham Health Auxiliary Thrift Shop is proud to celebrate 72 years of serving the community with a fresh, updated interior and a renewed commitment to supporting those in need across the region.
Since opening its doors in 1952, the Thrift Shop has been an integral part of the Elkin community, offering affordable goods while reinvesting proceeds into programs that make a difference in the lives of local families. Recently remodeled, the shop now provides an improved shopping experience while continuing to serve as a cornerstone of compassion and support.
Beyond offering quality clothing and household items at accessible prices, the Auxiliary Thrift Shop has launched several key initiatives to extend its reach:
- Community gift certificates for local non-profit agencies to ensure individuals have access to clothing and essential items.
- Free clothing for children and families in need through the local school system, helping students feel confident and cared for.
- Incontinence items for seniors who may otherwise struggle to afford them, offering dignity and comfort.
“For more than seven decades, the Auxiliary Thrift Shop has been a resource for the community, and these initiatives are a small piece of our organization’s mission to serve others,” said Katee Hettleman, Executive Director of the Hugh Chatham Health Foundation. The dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of those who donate and shop with us allow us to provide meaningful support for local health initiatives, patient assistance programs and community outreach efforts.”
In celebration of the 72nd year, the Hugh Chatham Health Thrift Shop will invite all patrons to “spin the wheel for a deal” throughout the month of November. The wheel contains specials discounts and giveaways. Teresa Chatham, President of the Hugh Chatham Health Auxiliary Board, stated “We are fortunate to have a beautiful location in Historic Downtown Elkin and the support of our town and community members. We encourage you to donate gently used items and stop by the thrift shop to learn more about the impact of the Auxiliary’s work. Together, every purchase and every donation help strengthen the fabric of the community.”
The Hugh Chatham Health Auxiliary Thrift Shop is located at 103 West Main Street in Elkin, North Carolina and is open Wednesday-Friday from 10:00am-5:00pm.
